🦟 AI in Malaria Prevention: Introducing VectorCam

In Uganda, researchers from Johns Hopkins University have launched VectorCam, an AI-powered model aimed at preventing malaria. This mobile-based app, connected to a microscope, identifies mosquito species, their role in disease transmission, and their gender. Importantly, it can also determine whether a mosquito is female and has laid eggs—critical information for managing disease-carrying mosquito populations. 📱🔬

Based on computer vision technology, VectorCam is a powerful tool for image analysis, potentially helping control disease vectors and reducing malaria prevalence in Africa, where 233 million people were affected by malaria in 2022. 🌍
