🧑🏻💻 U.S. Regulators Alarmed by Rise in Crypto Scams, Call for Stronger Measures
Claire McHenry, President of the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA), voiced serious concern over the increasing number of crypto-related fraud cases — especially among older citizens. She noted that fear of being blamed for carelessness may discourage victims from reporting crimes, making it harder to fight scammers.
In response to growing threats, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has recently announced the formation of a Cybersecurity and Emerging Technologies Unit (CETU). This 30-person team will focus on combating cybercrime and protecting retail investors from fraudulent activities in the realm of emerging tech.
Given these developments, experts are urging investors to exercise heightened caution when dealing with digital assets and to report any suspicious activity to the proper authorities to help prevent future crimes.
