Dark Eagle: Speeds of up to Mach 17

The U.S. Army recently successfully conducted field tests of its new Dark Eagle hypersonic missiles, which can reach speeds of up to Mach 17 (about 20,400 km/h) and strike targets at distances of up to 3,000 km. These missiles are capable of bypassing modern air defense systems and represent a significant step forward in hypersonic weapon development.

Dark Eagle is being developed jointly with Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman and is a key part of the U.S. long-range weaponry modernization program. The missile uses a booster to deliver a glide warhead to a height, after which it targets its destination at high speed and maneuverability, making it untouchable by modern air defense means.

Tests have shown the missile’s ability to integrate with existing command systems and operate in complex military operations, bringing it closer to full-scale deployment, planned for 2025. While other countries have already deployed hypersonic weapons, the U.S. is focused on precisely integrating new technologies into its armed forces to ensure strategic advantage.
