Agile Robots fully acquires idealworks — former BMW spin-off

The Chinese-German company Agile Robots has completed the full acquisition of idealworks, a BMW subsidiary startup, securing key technologies in autonomous logistics and robotics. The deal concludes a process that began back in 2023, when Agile became a strategic investor.

Idealworks is known for its industrial solutions: the autonomous robot iw.hub, the AnyFleet platform for AMR fleet management, and the iw.sim simulator. These systems are already deployed in BMW plants worldwide — with more than 850 iw.hub robots actively operating in logistics.

Now the goal is to scale these solutions beyond automotive. Agile Robots plans to expand idealworks’ presence in manufacturing, logistics, and pharma, enhancing integration with AI modules.

BMW will remain a key client, and the deal highlights a strategic trend: the shift from isolated solutions to a unified robotic ecosystem, where software, hardware, and AI function as one.
