ChatGPT Now with Memory: Personalization Reaches a New Level
OpenAI has introduced a memory feature in ChatGPT — and it could fundamentally change how users interact with AI.The chatbot can now remember who you are and what you’ve discussed previously. This isn’t just about saving chat history — it’s about forming a persistent context: ChatGPT analyzes past conversations, remembers interests, preferences, communication style, and recurring topics.
This enables truly personalized and contextually aware dialogues, making interactions feel more human-like.
The feature became available to Plus and Pro subscribers starting April 10, 2025, though it is not yet available in all regions. Notably, users in the EU, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein are excluded — likely due to regulatory concerns related to data protection.
OpenAI emphasizes that user control is paramount:
Users can turn memory off entirely, edit or delete individual memories, or initiate temporary chats — conversations that aren’t recorded or used to improve future responses.
This innovation promises major benefits for projects, long-term collaborations, and daily conversations.
However, it also raises new questions about privacy and data security. Experts advise users to be mindful of the information they share with ChatGPT.
