China and Thailand Strengthen Space Cooperation

China and Thailand are deepening their collaboration in space, expanding the partnership between the China National Space Administration (CNSA) and the Thai Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA). The parties have signed agreements aimed at joint satellite technology development, Earth observation data exchange, and — notably — talent training.

One of the alliance’s main goals is to strengthen Thailand’s position in the space industry by leveraging Chinese technology, infrastructure, and experience. At the same time, China gains access to the strategically important Southeast Asia region and can use GISTDA’s platform to expand the reach of its observation and communication programs.

The partnership includes joint missions, scientific knowledge exchange, and support for startups and educational initiatives in aerospace technology. This not only strengthens bilateral relations but also signals China’s increasingly active “soft space diplomacy” on the global stage.
