Claude is no longer just a chatbot: it can now edit and create files from scratch
September 9, 2025 — Anthropic has taken Claude to a new stage: a recently added feature allows users to create and edit files of various formats directly within Claude.ai and the desktop app. In other words, you can now not only ask questions but also upload an Excel spreadsheet or PDF and instruct Claude to rework the document — add sheets, formulas, create slides, or automatically format text. The new features are already available in preview mode for Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. Pro users will gain access in the coming weeks. For example, you can manually upload raw data, ask Claude to visualize a report with charts, calculations, and project scenarios — and receive a ready-made file.
This change could be a turning point in how people perceive AI assistants for workflows: Claude is moving beyond being just an “adviser,” taking on the role of an executor that does the work, not just describes it.
For now, there are still limitations: the feature is experimental, with restrictions on file size and task complexity. For effective use, instructions must be precise — otherwise “formatting errors” and “incomplete compliance” may still occur.
