Cryptocurrency in flight: Emirates and other airlines adopt digital asset payments
In the UAE, air travel is becoming part of the crypto revolution. Emirates is preparing to implement ticket payments via Bitcoin, Ethereum, and leading stablecoins — a memorandum of partnership with Crypto.com has already been signed, and the first transactions are expected in 2026. Air Arabia is taking its own path, testing an internal model: domestic flights will be payable with AE Coin, a local stablecoin pegged to the dirham.
On the global booking market, Travala.com is moving forward, having integrated support for more than one hundred cryptocurrencies along with its own rewards system. Alternative Airlines is also betting on Web3: through their platform, flights with hundreds of carriers can already be purchased in Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, USDT, and other digital assets.
This trend is reshaping the very architecture of travel payments. Cryptocurrency is ceasing to be just a tool for enthusiasts and entering the realm of mass consumption, while the UAE becomes a testing ground for new models of financial integration. In perspective, what today seems like innovation may tomorrow become a routine part of global travelers’ everyday reality. Source — Reuters
