DeepL launches an autonomous agent — a revolution for knowledge workers?
Cologne, early September 2025 — DeepL, known primarily as a leader in machine translation, is entering a new frontier: the launch of “DeepL Agent”, an autonomous AI assistant capable not only of helping with texts but of acting within the user’s digital environment almost like a real colleague.
The Agent responds to natural commands, controls the keyboard and mouse, operates in the browser, and moves across tools — as if the user were performing the tasks themselves. This is more than just automation of translations or corrections — DeepL promises the Agent can handle workloads in finance departments, prepare business reports, translate and reconcile documents, and perform sales analytics.
For DeepL, this is a logical expansion: valued at about $2 billion after its May 2024 funding round, the company already serves ≈200,000 organizations in 228 countries, with around 1,000 employees — providing a solid base to tackle safety, quality, and regulated business functions.
Importantly, the Agent is being developed with a strong emphasis on control and protection. DeepL stresses that the tool will operate within the user’s digital environment but with built-in oversight mechanisms — allowing for human intervention, action review, and monitoring.
