Google Maps with Intelligence: Gemini Turns Navigation into a Personal Assistant

Google is taking another step toward the era of “smart routes,” where the map becomes not just a navigator but a full-fledged companion in the user’s daily life. In the updated version of Google Maps integrated with the Gemini language model, artificial intelligence can now independently plan routes, find parking, and answer questions in a conversational mode.

The system understands natural language and allows users to communicate with the map like with a real assistant. You can simply say: “Find an affordable restaurant with a vegan menu along the way,” and Gemini will offer options, calculate the optimal route, check parking availability, and even add a meeting to your calendar.

According to Google, Gemini combines data on traffic, weather, infrastructure, and user behavior to predict travel time and offer dynamically adjusted routes. For electric vehicle owners, the AI can also locate the nearest charging stations, considering compatibility and current load.

The key feature of the update is multi-step tasks. Now you can ask the system: “Find a café with a vegan menu where I can have lunch on my way to the meeting, and add a reminder for my workout at 5 p.m.” — and all this will be handled within one context.

In essence, Gemini turns Google Maps into an integrated AI compass — a navigation hub that unites routes, habits, and life planning. If maps once showed the way, now they begin to understand intentions.
