In June 2025, a new staff member appeared at one of Shenzhen’s nursing homes—a humanoid robot called Astribot S1. This robot, developed by Stardust Intelligence, not only performs routine tasks, but also becomes a true companion for elderly people. It dances, sings, plays chess, and simply converses with residents, bringing joy and easing loneliness.
Astribot S1 is equipped with advanced technologies: it can recognize voice, express emotions, and adapt to the needs of each individual. Its deployment became part of a Chinese national program using robots in elderly care, aimed at addressing problems of an aging population and a lack of caregiving staff.
While such robots do not replace human communication, they become an important complement by providing constant attention and support. Astribot S1 demonstrates how technology can improve the quality of life for elderly people, offering them not only help, but also friendship.
