Humanoids for Package Delivery
Amazon has announced the start of testing humanoid robots for parcel delivery. These robots, including the Digit model from Agility Robotics, will be used to deliver packages by exiting Rivian electric vans and bringing orders directly to customers’ doors.
To prepare robots for real‑world conditions, Amazon built a special training facility in San Francisco called the “humanoid park.” There, robots undergo training on obstacle courses simulating various delivery scenarios, including navigating sidewalks, climbing stairs, and avoiding obstacles.
Amazon is also developing its own AI‑based software to control these robots. The goal is to create flexible systems capable of understanding and executing natural‑language commands, enabling robots to adapt to diverse delivery situations.
The company already uses more than 750,000 robots in its warehouses and fulfillment centers. The introduction of humanoid robots into the delivery process represents the next step in logistics automation, aimed at improving efficiency and reducing “last mile” delivery costs.
Although the project is still in the testing stage, it demonstrates Amazon’s drive for innovation in delivery and could significantly change logistics approaches in the near future.
