Hyundai Develops a Battery That Can Extinguish Its Own Fire

Electric vehicle safety is reaching a new level.
Hyundai Mobis has unveiled battery systems that not only supply energy but can also autonomously deal with fires.

The new built-in fire suppression technology activates automatically: in case of overheating or a short circuit, a special substance is injected into the damaged cell, being five times more effective than a traditional fire extinguisher.
Each battery is divided into separate modules, and the cells are isolated from one another to localize a potential fire before it can spread.

If the temperature continues to rise rapidly, the system additionally directs cooling liquid through special channels, slowing down the thermal runaway and preventing disaster.

Hyundai has already patented this technology.
The timeline for its mass adoption in electric vehicles has not yet been announced, but one thing is clear: with such batteries, electric cars will be safer than ever before.
