Investors Raise the Stakes: Startups in the Spotlight in Q1 2025
In the first quarter of 2025, investor activity in startups significantly increased, especially in the fields of artificial intelligence and high technology.

SoftBank made the largest venture investment in history, investing $40 billion in OpenAI, with $10 billion coming from a group of co-investors. Additionally, the SoftBank Vision Fund led major funding rounds: $230 million for QuEra Computing, $130 million for Terabase Energy, and $120 million for Cybereason.
Lightspeed Venture Partners ranked second in terms of investment volume, committing $4.25 billion, including $3.5 billion into Anthropic. They also became the most active lead investor, heading nine post-seed-stage deals.
Y Combinator, known as an early-stage accelerator, unexpectedly became the leading investor at the post-seed stage, participating in major rounds such as $275 million for Flock Safety and $260 million for Stoke Space.
