Isomorphic Labs Raises $600 Million to Advance AI-Driven Drug Discovery
British company Isomorphic Labs, spun out from DeepMind in 2021, has raised external funding for the first time. Led by Thrive Capital, the startup secured $600 million, with participation from GV (Google Ventures) and parent company Alphabet, which retains a majority stake.
Isomorphic Labs uses AI models like AlphaFold 3 to predict the three-dimensional structure of proteins and their interactions with other molecules — RNA, DNA, and drug compounds. This enables early identification of promising drug candidates, dramatically accelerating and reducing the cost of drug development.
The new funding will support further development of its platform, team expansion, and preparation for the first clinical trials of AI-designed molecules.
The company is already collaborating with pharma giants like Novartis and Eli Lilly, aiming to redefine the drug discovery process — making it computational rather than purely empirical.
CEO Demis Hassabis, who also heads DeepMind, received the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his contribution to the development of AlphaFold.
