Kazakhstan launches digital residency with access to the banking system
In an effort to strengthen its position as an attractive jurisdiction for global entrepreneurs and digital migrants, Kazakhstan has officially launched a digital residency program that grants access to the country’s banking system to citizens of any state, regardless of where they live.
The new initiative is designed to expand Kazakhstan’s economic space beyond its geographic borders, allowing foreigners to use financial instruments available in the republic. Obtaining digital resident status makes it possible to:
— Open bank accounts in Kazakhstani banks remotely;
— Access payment and settlement tools in demand across Central Asia;
— Participate in electronic marketplaces and cooperate with local and international partners;
— Interact more easily with the country’s tax and regulatory services.
Any adult citizen of any country can apply for digital resident status, with no requirement to physically reside in Kazakhstan. In this way, the project targets entrepreneurs, freelancers, investors, and startup founders who want to integrate their financial operations into the growing Eurasian market while maintaining a remote work format.
The program’s launch fits into Kazakhstan’s broader digital strategy aimed at developing IT infrastructure, virtual services, and financial technologies. In the context of globalization and the rise of digital professions, such an initiative could become an attractive bridge between the country’s stable economic space and the world’s digital economy.
