Meta Forms New Team for AGI
Meta has announced the formation of a new team aimed at developing artificial intelligence that surpasses human intelligence. The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mark Zuckerberg, is personally overseeing the recruitment of approximately 50 specialists, offering compensation packages reaching nine-figure sums to attract leading researchers from competing companies such as OpenAI and Google.
As part of this initiative, Meta has invested $14.3 billion in Scale AI, acquiring a 49% stake in the company, and brought on its Chief Executive Officer, Alexandr Wang, to lead the new team. Wang, known for his work in data annotation for AI training, will now head Meta’s efforts to build advanced AI models.
In addition, Meta has hired three researchers from OpenAI’s Swiss office — Lucas Beyer, Alexander Kolesnikov, and Xiaohua Zhai — who had previously worked at Google DeepMind. The company is also in negotiations with former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman and Safe Superintelligence CEO Daniel Gross to join the Meta team.
