The American startup Nucleus Genomics has introduced the innovative platform Nucleus Embryo, designed to analyze and compare up to 20 embryos obtained via IVF. The service allows evaluation of the probability of developing over 900 hereditary diseases and 40 additional traits, including physical characteristics and cognitive abilities. The cost of the service is $5,999.

Nucleus Embryo provides parents with information about the likelihood of their future child developing diseases such as Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular diseases, various types of cancer, as well as predispositions to depression, anxiety disorders, and other mental conditions. In addition, it assesses physical characteristics such as height, eye color, hair color, and even estimated intelligence level. It is important to note that the data provided are probabilistic estimates, not guaranteed predictions.

Founder and CEO of Nucleus Genomics, Kiyan Sadeghi, emphasizes that the goal of the platform is to provide parents with information previously available only to specialists, helping them make informed choices when planning a family. However, the launch of Nucleus Embryo sparked a broad public debate. Critics express concerns about possible amplification of social inequality and discrimination, as well as remind us of the risks associated with attempts to “improve” human nature.
