OpenAI in Turmoil: Ilya Sutskever Launches New AGI Company

Recent events in the world of artificial intelligence have shaken the IT community: Ilya Sutskever, one of the co-founders of OpenAI and the creator of ChatGPT, announced the creation of a new company called Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI). This news came shortly after his departure from OpenAI, causing a significant stir.

Ilya Sutskever, known as the “brains” behind OpenAI, was the company’s chief scientist and a key figure in developing its leading technologies. In November 2023, he was involved in an attempt to oust Sam Altman from his position as CEO, which led to internal conflicts and ultimately to Sutskever’s dismissal.

Sutskever’s new company, SSI, has set an ambitious goal: to create a safe superintelligence, focusing solely on safety and scientific breakthroughs. Unlike OpenAI, which must balance between innovation and commercial interests, SSI intends to avoid distractions related to funding and management, dedicating itself entirely to developing safe artificial intelligence.

The company has already attracted notable experts, including former AI leader from Apple Daniel Gross and former OpenAI employee Daniel Levy. SSI’s headquarters are located in Palo Alto, California, and Tel Aviv, allowing the company to recruit top talent from around the world.

SSI states that their approach to developing superintelligence will focus on engineering and scientific breakthroughs to ensure that safety always outpaces capabilities. This approach aims to mitigate risks and create a stable path to achieving superintelligence.

These steps could make SSI a serious competitor for OpenAI and other commercial leaders in this field, especially in light of the ongoing debates about AI safety and ethics. Sutskever and his team are determined to prove that it is possible to create a powerful and safe artificial intelligence without being distracted by commercial interests and military applications.
