OpenAI Introduces GPT-4o: A New Step in the World of Artificial Intelligence

On May 13, 2024, OpenAI made another revolutionary leap by introducing its latest development — the GPT-4o language model. This model promises to change our perception of artificial intelligence by integrating text, voice, and visual capabilities.

The name GPT-4o speaks for itself. The “o” in the name stands for “omni” — comprehensive. This is not just a marketing ploy. The model is truly capable of working with text, voice, and images, making it a universal tool for various tasks. With an audio signal response time of just 320 milliseconds, GPT-4o is almost as fast as a human in live conversation. This speed and accuracy make interaction with AI incredibly natural.

Mira Murati, OpenAI’s CTO, emphasized during the presentation that the ability to simultaneously work with text, voice, and images opens new horizons in human-machine communication. GPT-4o not only maintains the high performance of the previous GPT-4 Turbo version but also significantly surpasses it, especially in understanding and processing audio and visual data. The model supports 50 languages, making it accessible to users worldwide. It allows real-time interaction with ChatGPT, capturing emotional nuances in voice and responding accordingly.

As of May 13, 2024, GPT-4o is available for use. In the coming weeks, voice functions will be tested by a small group of trusted partners, and by June, they will be available to all paid subscribers. One of the most significant aspects of the new model is its accessibility to all users, regardless of whether they pay for a subscription or not. This decision democratizes access to high technology and opens up opportunities for many people around the world.

GPT-4o has enormous potential in various fields. In education, the model can become a powerful tool for students, helping them get instant answers to questions and support with homework. However, this also raises questions about academic honesty and potential abuses. In the corporate environment, GPT-4o can significantly increase efficiency by allowing employees to create and use specialized programs to automate tasks. For example, marketing departments will be able to generate content and analyze data faster and more accurately than ever before.

For startups and small businesses, GPT-4o opens new horizons. Entrepreneurs will be able to use AI to write codes, marketing materials, and business plans in various languages, significantly lowering the barriers to market entry and speeding up innovation.

Examples of practical applications of GPT-4o are impressive. In medicine, doctors can use the model to analyze medical images and recognize symptoms based on audio descriptions from patients, speeding up diagnoses and improving the quality of medical care. In education, teachers can create interactive lessons where AI answers students’ questions in real time, explains complex concepts, and even conducts virtual lab sessions.

In the entertainment industry, GPT-4o can be used to create interactive games where characters respond to players’ voice commands, creating a more immersive and realistic gaming experience. Lawyers can use the model to analyze legal documents, prepare contracts, and conduct virtual consultations, significantly saving time and increasing accuracy. In marketing, specialists will be able to generate advertising campaigns, analyze consumer sentiments, and develop product promotion strategies based on AI data and recommendations.

The introduction of GPT-4o is a significant step forward in the development of artificial intelligence, which can transform many aspects of our lives. This model combines text, voice, and vision, making interaction with AI more natural and intuitive. Increasing the accessibility of such technologies opens up enormous opportunities for educational institutions, businesses, and ordinary users but also poses new challenges that we must be ready to face.
