South Korea’s New Laser Weapon

South Korea has unveiled a new laser weapon capable of destroying drones using a directed laser beam. During testing, the weapon successfully struck several DJI Phantom 4 drones in just a few seconds. The laser system, developed by Hanwha Aerospace, uses fiber optic technology to generate a high-temperature laser beam that heats the target to over 700°C, disabling its internal components.

The weapon, dubbed the “Star Wars Project,” can target small unmanned aerial vehicles and multicopters at short distances. The system is expected to significantly enhance South Korea’s defense capabilities amid growing threats from North Korean drones. The laser installation does not require ammunition and can operate almost silently and undetectably, making it particularly effective in combat situations.
