Stargate Opens: $500 Billion for AI Infrastructure for OpenAI

It’s official! Artificial intelligence has taken a step toward creating its own universe. OpenAI, SoftBank, Oracle, and the UAE’s MGX investment fund have announced Stargate — an ambitious infrastructure megaproject designed to span decades. Its goal is to build a new global network of data centers capable of providing unprecedented power for training and deploying AI models.
The total investment for Stargate is $500 billion, making it, without exaggeration, the largest private project in AI history.
Why is this happening?
The project is conceived as an alternative to Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure, with which OpenAI has been collaborating since 2019. Until now, Microsoft had been OpenAI’s exclusive partner, but with the launch of Stargate, that exclusivity has effectively ended. In response, Microsoft stated it retains a “first choice right” if OpenAI seeks to use other facilities — but exclusivity is now a thing of the past.
The financial structure is staggering.
In its first phase, Stargate will secure an astonishing $100 billion — a significant portion of which will be financed through third-party debt. SoftBank is orchestrating this financial mechanism, positioning itself not just as an investor, but as the coordinator of the entire financial framework.
Over the next four years, the project plans to expand by another $400 billion, sourcing funds from existing investors, new participants, and international lenders.
Operational control of Stargate will be handled by OpenAI, while Oracle and MGX will act as strategic partners, contributing infrastructure and regional capabilities.
Context:
Stargate is not just an investment in AI. It is part of a broader strategy by SoftBank — and personally by Masayoshi Son — who previously promised President Trump to invest $100 billion into American technologies. Now, that promise is materializing into a concrete architecture for the future.

The Future Panorama:
Figures in the hundreds of billions indicate that we are no longer talking about mere startups or labs — but about building digital ecosystems on a planetary scale, where AI is not just a tool but becomes the infrastructural backbone of everything.
