Starlink doubled traffic and user base in a year, moving beyond satellite internet

In 2025, the Starlink satellite network demonstrated one of the fastest growth rates in global telecom infrastructure. According to Cloudflare data, the network’s global internet traffic more than doubled—a result of simultaneous coverage expansion and a sharp influx of new users.

By year-end, Starlink had around 8 million active subscribers in more than 150 countries, compared with roughly 4 million in 2024. Growth is extending beyond fixed access: Direct to Cell technology is moving from testing into practical use. In Kazakhstan, Beeline Kazakhstan conducted Central Asia’s first field trials of direct satellite data transmission, while in Canada Rogers already offers Starlink satellite mobile connectivity as a commercial service outside traditional coverage areas.

The infrastructure base is expanding at comparable speed. SpaceX continues to rapidly scale its orbital constellation: the 550th successful landing of a Falcon 9 first stage was recently completed—a metric that directly affects cost efficiency and the pace of network expansion.

Starlink is increasingly perceived less as an alternative access channel and more as a distinct global connectivity layer, capable of complementing—and in certain scenarios replacing—traditional telecom networks.
