Switzerland Attracts Startup Founders

In 2024, Switzerland recorded a record increase in the number of new startups. According to the Institute for Youth Policy (IFJ), nearly 53,000 new businesses were registered, representing a 2.6% increase compared to the previous year. Growth was particularly notable in the southwestern part of the country, where the number of startups rose by 6.3%.

However, despite the increase in new companies, the number of bankruptcies also grew in 2023. According to the analytics group Dunn & Bradstreet, 5,089 companies ceased operations, marking a 5% rise from the previous year. This highlights the need for careful planning and sustainable business models for new enterprises.

For example, in the innovation sector, the Swiss startup Sun-Ways has developed a mobile technology for harvesting solar energy using unused spaces between railway tracks. This solution effectively utilizes infrastructure to generate renewable energy.

Additionally, a Belarusian entrepreneur who relocated to Switzerland founded the promising AI startup Identic. The company is already valued at $4 million and is attracting investor interest in the field of artificial intelligence, with strong growth potential in 2025. Switzerland’s startup and technology ecosystem is well-developed, closely linked with universities and tech parks, and attracts project initiators from around the world.
