THAAD: Shield Against Ballistic Threats

The American Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system is a technological marvel capable of defending against intercontinental ballistic missiles. This system is among the most powerful tools in the U.S. arsenal, designed to intercept missile threats both within and beyond the atmosphere.

THAAD is equipped with a radar boasting a detection range of up to 1,000 kilometers, enabling early identification and tracking of targets. Its operation is based on the “kinetic interception” principle, where the interceptor missile destroys the target by direct impact, eliminating the risk of a warhead explosion.

The cost of a single THAAD system, including equipment, is approximately $3 billion, underscoring its complexity and advanced technology. However, its effectiveness justifies the expense: THAAD has been deployed in key global locations, including Israel, where it enhances the country’s multi-layered missile defense network.
