What is Project Guardian?
Launched by MAS in 2022, Project Guardian brings together policymakers, financial institutions, and industry leaders to study the potential of asset tokenization. The initiative focuses on integrating Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) into financial systems to enhance market liquidity and operational efficiency.
By joining Project Guardian, Bundesbank reinforces international efforts to standardize and promote tokenized financial ecosystems. The central bank will focus on asset and wealth management, contributing to the development of interoperable blockchain platforms for managing tokenized funds.
Burkhard Balz, a member of Bundesbank’s Executive Board, stated:
“MAS is working on innovative topics that we in Europe are also addressing, such as how DLT and blockchain can be effectively utilized in the financial sector.”
Bundesbank’s participation underscores the growing recognition of blockchain and asset tokenization by central banks worldwide. This collaboration sets the stage for a more interconnected and efficient global financial system, establishing standards for tokenized assets while driving innovation in financial services.
