TURKEY LAUNCHES $1.5 BILLION RESEARCH CENTER TO BOOST DEFENSE INDUSTRY

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has inaugurated a new $1.5 billion Aselsan research facility in Ankara — the largest single investment in Turkey’s defense sector to date. The center is set to become a major hub for developing cutting-edge missile system technologies, including radars, sensors, and electronic modules for Turkey’s version of the “Iron Dome.”

Aselsan remains Turkey’s top defense contractor, playing a central role in the development of strike drones, next-generation frigates, and ballistic missile systems. In recent years, the company has become a symbol of national technological independence. Earlier, it received $616 million in government subsidies to accelerate the development of critical systems.

The market has responded strongly to these advancements. In 2025, Aselsan’s stock surged by 153%, pushing the company’s market capitalization to $20 billion — solidifying its position as one of the key players in the global defense industry.
