Vitalik Buterin: “Ethereum Must Become Private Again”
🛡️ Vitalik Buterin: “Ethereum Must Become Private Again” Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has introduced a new concept for confidential transactions on the Ethereum network. The goal: to allow users to protect their privacy without compromising the openness and transparency of the blockchain.
What’s being proposed?
Buterin described a mechanism called “Stealth Addresses 2.0” — an improved architecture based on one-time addresses and zero-knowledge proofs. This would allow transaction recipients and amounts to be hidden while preserving on-chain auditability and verification.
The idea is built on ElGamal-based cryptographic schemes and EIP-5564, enabling the creation of temporary, disposable addresses that are not directly linked to a user’s public wallet.
Buterin emphasizes: “Privacy should be available by default, not a luxury reserved for the technically advanced.”
The proposal has already sparked debate in the crypto community, where balancing privacy with regulatory compliance remains a central challenge for Ethereum’s future.
